Sunlight falls across a winding path in this acrylic painting, with a couple walking together among the trees. Their small figures give the eye somewhere to settle beyond the shaded foreground and the warm patches of grass.
This was part of a series exploring people walking in nature, with trees, dappled sunshine and stillness around them. I tried Arches 300gsm watercolour paper instead of canvas for this painting and liked the texture its rough grain brought to the surface. The couple are important too: cover them with your finger and the scene somehow feels a little aimless, as though it has lost its focal point.
