I wanted to capture a quiet moment in this acrylic painting: a couple taking a romantic stroll through St Stephen’s Green beneath an umbrella, with only the pigeons as witnesses. The wet path reflects the blue of the sky, surrounded by the greens and golds of the autumnal trees.
The Green has always felt like an oasis in the centre of Dublin to me. Traffic surrounds it on every side, yet shielded beneath those huge sycamores the noise seems to fade away. That sense of stepping out of the busy city into somewhere tranquil was what I wanted to bring into the painting.
