Was delighted to be asked to allow the Canadian band Raglan Road to use my painting of 'The Last Sup' on the cover of the first single from their new album.

Canada's New Brunswick is a remarkable place where the imprint of Irish culture is particularly profound. In this thriving hub of Celtic music, another remarkable band has emerged, quickly capturing the hearts of the province's Celtic music community. Raglan Road, newcomers to the scene, are set to release the first single from their eagerly anticipated new album.

Situated on Canada's eastern coast, New Brunswick is bordered by Maine in the U.S to the south and Quebec to the north. With more than sixty lighthouses dotted along its coastline, it's a scenic and historic place to visit. Interestingly, nearly half of New Brunswickers can trace their ancestry back to Celtic origins, with Irish, Scottish, Welsh, and Breton roots represented among both francophone and anglophone communities.

Many of these ancestors fled their homelands, seeking refuge in Canada from oppression and hardship during An Gorta Mór, also known as the Great Famine, in the 19th century. The 1847 famine, in particular, triggered a wave of immigration that transformed the province's demographics. Yet, through the indomitable spirit and resilience of the Celtic people, they managed to put down roots in their new home and preserve their cultural heritage.

Today, the Celtic culture of New Brunswick is thriving, and it's no surprise to encounter a fellow Celtic-Punker when visiting this dynamic and welcoming province.

Raglan Road, a band hailing from Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland, and Miramichi city, have made a name for themselves in the thriving music scene of eastern Canada. They have shared stages with some of the biggest and most beloved acts in the region, garnering a devoted following. Originally a duo consisting of Jason Martell and Gary Gosse, they were soon joined by Corey MacDonald and Jamie Craig of The Durty Nellys. Together, they released their self-titled debut album, featuring a diverse range of thirteen tracks that earned them widespread critical acclaim.

Their debut album is a compelling fusion of country and Celtic rock influences, featuring a blend of original compositions and traditional favourites, as well as a couple of more modern Irish rockers. With their unique sound and exceptional musicianship, Raglan Road has quickly become one of the most talked-about bands in eastern Canada.
