Under Clerys Clock - 365
An acrylic cityscape painting on canvas. Its five past seven in the evening and under Clery's clock a romantic couple meet up before heading off to some watering hole on O'Connell Street or maybe further afield if the drizzle lets up. Dont want to get the hair ruined so keep that umbrella over my head she says !!
Sometimes my interest is piqued and I like to research some of my painting subjects, especially Dublin street scenes and pubs and bars and am often amazed at some of the snippets of curious information I come across. Follow this link to read one or two about Clerys of O'Connell, Street ...

My family has a deep and long history with Clery & Co. (1941) Ltd. It’s founder, Denis Guiney, was my Great-Uncle. His wife, Aunty May, was involved in the business well into her 90s. They had no children and my mother was a substantial shareholder and through that connection, my father, a businessman involved in aviation, was asked to step in as MD and was on the Board for over 20 years. My sister worked there for over 30 years, her daughter met her husband, whose father worked there, when both were student workers. My earliest memories are at about 5 years old, when Eileen at “The Bureau” would magic me up a Dairy Milk through the pneumatic cash pipe system. 45 years later I ended up on the Board, where my Dad had sat, under the portrait of Uncle Denis. A combination of a major recession, property issues and the difficulty of being a one off Department Store, albeit the worlds first, ultimately meant a sad end to “Our Clerys” in 2012. My wife and I recently decided to look for a memento for those times and we’re surprised how many options there were. Having looked at a number, we came across Chris McMorrow’s website. That was it, we immediately knew this was what we wanted, ordered it , and it was here and on our kitchen wall 2 days later. Thanks Chris David Walls
I ordered this print as a gift to my parents on our wedding day, they love it and say it reminds them of when they first met. Chris was so professional, I was very unorganized and ordered it the week of the wedding, Chris dropped it personally to my home to make sure I had it in time. Thank you Chris, we are all very happy with it, it’s beautiful.
I bought Halpenny Bridge and Under the Clock and hung both in my sitting room. They are beautiful and so well framed. Everyone who sees them in my house remarks on them, great talking piece.
I am very pleased with the picture. It is a present for our 40th wedding anniversary as that was our meeting place ! The packaging was really good & i'm very happy with the fast delivery. Thank you Chris, this a lovely keepsake. Anne

I was racking my brains thinking of a present for my cousin when I found "Under Clerys clock" print. A perfect gift for him as himself and his wife met under the clock for 4 years and recently featured in the Irish documentary Under The Clock. Print arrived in a couple of days, Chris was a pleasure to deal with and I would highly recommend his fantastic work..
I bought this print as a present for my parents - they used to meet under the clerys clock for dates before they were married!! They were absolutely delighted with it and said it brought them right back! Chris was a pleasure to deal with and the print arrived quickly and safely as promised. Can highly recommend, it's so lovely to have a beautiful nostalgic piece like this in your home.
This is a really lovely picture. I bought this for friends in the USA to remind them of their first date in Dublin a long time ago. It really captures the romantic mood and was a perfect wedding present. Chris handled postage and packaging to Seattle without any issues and provided clear communications to me. My friends are delighted with the picture and love it. I have no problem recommending Chris' site and his artwork to anyone.
