People stand chatting outside the Dame Tavern on Dame Court, Dublin, in this acrylic painting on canvas. Its red frontage wraps around the corner, with bright windows and reflections adding warmth to the scene.
I knew this pub well in the 1980s and 1990s, when drinking and seating outside were much less common. Those outdoor gatherings give me so much more to work with as a painter: little groups turned towards one another, each with their own conversation, bringing another layer of life to the composition.
