People sit facing the sunshine along the sheltered side of the East Pier wall in this watercolour of Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin. Others stroll along the pier, with a scattering of moored boats on the tranquil harbour water behind them.
The scene brings together two familiar ways of enjoying the pier: taking a walk and finding a sunny spot to sit for a while. The long wall draws the eye through the painting, with the open water and distant outline of the Hill of Howth giving a sense of space beyond.
