I think this acrylic painting was inspired in part by Stanley Royle’s The Goose Girl. I used to have a reproduction hanging in my house and loved its dappled light.

Here, I created a woodland scene with a mother and daughter dressed in white, picking bluebells among slender trees. I wanted to explore that play of light and shade across the figures and flowers.

There is just a hint of a house in the background, a small suggestion of everyday life beyond the wood.
