Henry Street, Dublin – 275

This acrylic shows Henry Street and Arnotts in the thick of the December market stalls. In the lead-up to Christmas, the street can be so crowded that you can only shuffle along with everyone else.

I loved the little candy-striped awnings on the stalls and made sure they featured in the painting. They give the scene that unmistakable feeling of Henry Street at Christmas.

I brought the shoppers close to the foreground to capture the crush of people and the bustle around the stalls, with the shop lights brightening a cold, damp December afternoon.
