My girlfriend was born in Dublin (a real Liberty Belle) and left Ireland in her late teens for North America and now lives in San Francisco. She still loves Dublin and misses it and her family so so much. Even though she now gets to visit 3 or 4 times a year, she always wanted a "piece of Dublin". She came across Chris' work one day last summer and fell in love with it.
We decided on "Under Merchant's Arch" as one of her fondest memories was walking with her dad over the Ha'penny Bridge which is in the background. I liked it because I could pretend that one day that it might be us under the umbrella.
After ordering I came across "Soft Day, Grafton Street" and ordered it for myself. It brought back fond memories for me as that really could be us walking out of Boodles after a special sparkly surprise and on our way to the Westbury to have a drink and plan her next surprise. You can even make out Suzanne (the Harry Street flower lady) who gave us a clover for St. Patrick's Day.
I know these paintings were done without knowing us but that is what I mean by "timeless". They have captured a special moment for us - one in the past and one hopefully in the future.
Both pieces are so evocative and special. Whether you something to remind you of your birthplace or a special visit or a special person, you cannot go wrong with any of Chris' work.
As you might expect, all interactions were professional and shipment to North America was reasonable and fast. Thank you so much.
