The big windows of the Bad Ass Café were what drew me to this view of Crown Alley in Dublin’s Temple Bar, looking towards Merchants Arch. Their light, along with the other glowing windows along the street, gave me plenty of colour to reflect across the cool, wet cobblestones.

When I began painting city scenes in acrylics after working in watercolour, I revisited some views I had painted before. This was one of them. I enjoyed exaggerating the colours, pushing the warmth of the windows against the blues of the street and filling the scene with umbrellas and evening bustle.
