Crowds cross College Green beneath umbrellas in this acrylic painting of Dublin, with warm windows reflected across the wet street. I took the viewpoint from the steps of the old Bank of Ireland, looking down over the busy junction.
The elevation gave me an unusual view, emphasised by the figures partly cut off at the bottom of the painting. There’s a family connection here too: my father would have looked out over this scene while on overnight Army guard duty one Christmas Eve in the 1940s, with only a wooden sentry box for shelter.
