Connemara Cottage – 907

A white cottage with a bright red roof sits beneath the Twelve Bens in this acrylic painting of Connemara, County Galway. Poppies spread across the foreground, their warm reds standing out against the grasses and distant mountains.

I spotted the cottage while driving along one of Connemara’s back roads and knew I had to paint it. I changed the surrounding landscape a little, adding the poppies because there seemed to be too much greenery among all the rushes. A bit of artistic licence brought the colour I was looking for.
