Castletown House in Celbridge, County Kildare, sits beyond the lawn in this watercolour painting, framed by the branches of a large tree. The grain of the Arches paper is particularly visible here, adding texture to the pale sky and the washes of colour.
The estate is only a few minutes from where I live and was a lifesaver during the Covid lockdowns, as it fell within the distance we were allowed to travel. I spent a lot of time there taking photographs and making sketches, getting to know its views through those visits.
