Castlemarket is one of my favourite Dublin scenes to paint. The awnings, outdoor seating and crowds give me plenty to work with. This acrylic on canvas looks towards George’s Street Arcade, with a few diners braving the elements at the tables outside.
On the right, I liked the idea of a couple stopping to window-shop, their faces illuminated by the display. Sheltered beneath the canopy, they seem quite cosy despite the damp evening around them.
The contrast between cerulean blues and deep oranges helped liven up the composition, carrying the warmth of the windows out into the wet street.
