Boats rest on the still water of Bullock Harbour in Dalkey, County Dublin, in this watercolour painting. Their pale hulls and dark reflections break up the blue surface, with the harbour wall and open sea beyond.
This was one of a handful of Dublin watercolours in which I tried a different approach from my usual style. I broke the detail into small blobs of colour and shape, with the idea that the separate marks would come together into a recognisable scene when viewed from a little further back — a little like pointillism.
