I painted this frontal view of Bewley’s Café on a small 12 × 10 inch acrylic canvas. I cropped the composition to the ground floor and first-floor balcony, keeping the focus on that part of the Grafton Street façade.
The vibrant yellows and oranges bring warmth to the café interior, particularly against the cool lilac walls. That colour contrast was a large part of what I wanted to capture.
This is a little more impressionistic than my usual work, with a looser approach to the detail on such a small canvas.
