This acrylic painting of Bandon Golf Club in County Cork was commissioned through a gallery. The reference photograph they supplied gave me the main elements of the composition, but some of the finer detail was difficult to make out.
I had to use my judgement and imagination to fill in what I couldn’t see clearly. That became part of the challenge of the painting: keeping the scene recognisable while working out those less distinct areas.
I changed the view to evening and toned down the dominant greens so that they wouldn’t overwhelm the building and the rest of the composition.
