In this acrylic painting, I wanted to give a couple the strand at Sandymount to themselves, with the tide well out and plenty of open sand around them. I imagined the sort of leisurely weekend outing that might end with a coffee and croissant somewhere nearby.
The old seawater baths and the familiar Poolbeg chimney stacks were features I wanted to include. They place the scene firmly in Sandymount, even with so much of the composition given over to the beach and water.
The foliage in the foreground creates a sense of watching from a little distance, as though we have caught a glimpse of the couple enjoying their own quiet moment.
