I wanted to include Liberty Hall in a painting. It is such a recognisable part of Dublin’s skyline, though perhaps not its prettiest building! In this acrylic, I placed it in the background, partly hidden by a sycamore tree to help it settle into the rest of the scene.
The couple provide the focal point, their warm jackets standing out against the blues and greys of the wet pavement and river. I also wanted to take in some of the sweep of O’Connell Bridge, with the lights reflected in the Liffey bringing warmth across the water.
