This print is from a large acrylic painting I did some time ago of the Villa Kerylos on the beautiful Cote d'Azur.
It's a magnificent mansion situated on the shores of the Mediterranean in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, France.
It was built between 1902 and 1908 by the French archaeologist and scholar Théodore Reinach, who was passionate about ancient Greek culture and architecture.
The villa was designed to resemble an ancient Greek villa, with a central courtyard and colonnaded porticos.
Villa Kerylos is named after the Greek word for a halcyon, a mythical bird that was said to nest on the waves of the sea. The villa is a testament to Reinach's fascination with ancient Greek culture, as well as his wealth and refined taste.
It is filled with beautiful details and decorative elements, including frescoes, mosaics, and sculptures, created by some of the most talented artists of the day.
Over the years, Villa Kerylos has played host to many distinguished guests, including the writer André Gide, the composer Igor Stravinsky, and the actress Sarah Bernhardt.
Today, it is open to the public as a museum, and visitors can explore the villa's many rooms and gardens, as well as learn about its fascinating history and the people who lived there.
