This acrylic painting of Castle Leslie in Glaslough, County Monaghan, began as a commission connected with a wedding at the castle. I wanted a view that would take in both the building and its beautiful surroundings.

I drove there on a lovely sunny day during Covid to gather reference photographs. After the long journey, I arrived at the gate unsure whether I would be allowed in, as access was restricted to guests at the time. The staff couldn’t have been nicer. One of them escorted me around, showing me the best viewpoints.

It is a stunning place inside and out. Of all the views I saw that day, this was the one I felt best suited the painting, and I was very happy with how it turned out.
