I caught College Green in a lull in the traffic for this acrylic painting. Westmoreland Street stretches into the distance between the twin bookends of Trinity College and the old Bank of Ireland building.
The mauve ground I painted over shows through in places, warmed by the reds and oranges of the lighting on the buildings. I liked the way those colours worked together across the scene.
Reflections of the sky on the road suggest a dull, rainy Dublin day, while people hurry along about their business. The brief gap in the traffic gives us a chance to take in the buildings and the view beyond.
