The Promenade in Bray, Wicklow is one of my favourite places to paint. In this painting, I wanted to highlight the romantic couple in the foreground while also capturing the stunning scenery of Bray Head in the background.
The old railings along the Promenade provide natural leading lines, which guide the viewer's eye towards the lovers and then beyond, creating a sense of depth and distance.
Some scenes just simply present themselves naturally, and this was one of them. Others require a bit of artistic license to bring out the best in the scene.
But whether I'm painting what I see before me or interpreting it with artistic licence, the Promenade in Bray always makes a great subject for inspiration.
