People walk beneath umbrellas along Castlemarket in this acrylic painting of Dublin, looking towards the Powerscourt Townhouse on South William Street. Warm windows and colourful awnings brighten the street, their reflections spreading across the cool blue pavement.
Castlemarket was one of my favourite places to paint. It was the first place where I noticed those colourful awnings, and they instantly reminded me of Paris. This was before the smoking ban, when they seemed much less common around Dublin. I painted many versions of the street, trying to vary each one, but there was always something new, different or lively whenever I visited.
