Antiques Shop, Johnsons Court, Dublin – 43

This little acrylic painting brought back plenty of memories. I used to pass this shop, or an earlier version of it, on my way to my first job on Clarendon Street in the late 1970s.

The shop just to its right was where I first tasted coleslaw. It might sound funny now, but to me it was quite exotic back then! Small details like that can stay with you just as clearly as the buildings themselves.

I wanted to include a couple looking into the window, perhaps searching for a present or gathering ideas for Christmas or a birthday. I like a painting to offer a hint of a story, while leaving the viewer to imagine the rest.
