This was one of my early acrylic paintings. I chose the viewpoint for the sweep along O’Connell Street and the depth it gave the scene, allowing me to include the GPO, the Daniel O’Connell monument and the Spire in one painting.
I wanted to capture that heavy, damp evening atmosphere without making everything too grey and dreary. Cool mauves and blues dominate, offset by warm light from the shops and buses. The red jacket in the foreground gives the eye something bright to land on among the umbrellas and reflections.
