This acrylic followed on from an earlier bluebell painting, but this time I added a couple walking in the distance beneath an umbrella. I wanted to suggest a quiet, romantic walk among these delicate flowers, with the orange umbrella standing out against their blues and mauves.
I introduced dappled light to create more variety among the bluebells, letting brighter patches sit alongside areas of shade. It helped give the carpet of flowers depth without losing its softness.
The path was my own addition too. Its curve, together with darker marks through the foreground, leads the eye towards the couple and further into the wood.
